Senior Mechanical Engineer
We are looking for a talented and experienced mechanical engineer to join our growing hardware team. In this
role, you will be focused both on hardening our current hardware system and on the architecture, development,
and implementation of our next-generation hardware. You will advise and mentor other team members while making
hands-on contributions on critical workflows. Your design contributions will include fabricated steel
structures and weldments, bolted assemblies, non-metallic components, connectors and cabling. You will inform
your work with your knowledge of machine design, strength of materials, structural fatigue, joint design, and
reliability for noise/vibration/harshness.
Responsibilities:
- You will work closely with the product team to transform a vision and customer needs into designs and a
roadmap for integration with the current hardware stack
- Create concepts and designs for robust and manufacturable solutions to challenging engineering problems
- Implement designs in CAD and carry out simulation and analysis as appropriate
- Lead and support design reviews
- Prototype and validate designs with a combination of lab and field testing
- Partner with the Product team to define environmental test & reliability specs
- Conduct failure analysis on units and apply corrective actions to iterate on designs to improve robustness
- Create manufacturing drawings and partner with vendors & assembly house(s) to create a manufacturing
supply chain
- Scale your hardware contributions by mentoring and guiding other hardware team members
Qualifications
- BS degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Entrepreneurial growth mindset
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and product development
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a collaborative environment and to communicate effectively in cross
functional teams
- Experience mentoring and guiding junior engineers
- Proficiency in Solidworks, OnShape or other CAD design tools
- Previous experience designing mass-produced steel mounting structures
- Hands-on experience performing component-level FEA
- Hands on experience in prototyping, validation, manufacturing processes, and test
- Ability to perform hardware debugging, validation, stress testing and failure analysis
- Experience working with component vendors, sensor vendors, and assembly houses
- Ability to occasionally travel to production sites
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience working on heavy equipment for mining, construction, or agriculture
- Working knowledge of electrical systems
- Experience with welding and other metal fabrication methods
